they sit there most days, on
a bench beside the lake,
and feed the ducks and sparrows
with bread or crumbs of cake.

so many years between them,
and so many spent as one!
they quarrel and they argue
until the serving’s done.

she scolds him in his portions,
he scoffs her every word;
she tries to tidy after him,
while he leaves it for the birds.

Yet…
sometimes you can see
the desire in his eyes,
to be the rising sun
lighting up her skies.

and…
sometimes you can glimpse
between her rebukes and pleas,
a hope to be the only moonrise
drawing up his seas.

does it ever go away,
the feelings that they share?
the body always wearies,
but I think it’s ever there.

I hope so for my partner,
a prayer for myself too;
that hearts can hold the passion
that these two seem to do.

It is that resilient, unconditional love that is so needed in a relationship, and I/'/m glad you see it. A great read, and truth for the world to admire,

You have answered your own question: "Does it ever go away, the feelings that they share?"..

Someone you love can become so important to your happiness that they become an essential fabric of your "life". Without them, the tapestry unravels.
It is not dependence; it is pursuit of happiness!
In that case, it never goes away!
Few know that kind of love; but the few that do, we envy.
I wish you that kind of love; born of friendship, partnership, solidarity, trust, admiration, respect, reliance, and faith.
If you ever find a partner that you would not say a curse word to, or in front of; or call a name; or raise your voice to no matter how frustrated you become; or allow anyone else to belittle in any way; ---you have found the one.
