Array ( [sid] => 182394 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Icarus//'//s descent [time] => 2016-01-05 15:35:02 [hometext] => A fairly abstract poem about a unhealthy manipulative relationship and the moment of realisation when enough strength is gained to walk away. [bodytext] => I didn’t believe in your spaceship land and I thought that your plan was far too grand,
but I hope your spaceship is held together by the same glue that you inhale.
You inhaled me once and said I was brand new and that I was easy to love, that it was easy for you.
The intensity was unrivalled and it felt right, although a little wild, it made me want to fight.
I tried to bite my tongue all the time but my teeth were eroded by lime, my tongue was released and you severed it in half because the words didn’t please you they only made you laugh.
So I stitched my mouth closed because I thought I deserved the pain, it was a more permanent solution to help me refrain but the urge was great, so my jaw resisted and sliced half my face.
The shreds of flesh helped me to realise that my eyes were disguised by an invisible mesh, my 20/20 vision was reduced by half.
I searched and searched for a way to remove it but the task was too delicate for anyone to assist.
I dreamt that the shreds covered my whole body and awoke in a sweat with nothing to cling onto but my perceived safety net.
And I used the stitches to hot wire a car and drove to you even though it was quite far, but my pores bled so much I could have swam to you.
In your arms I began to cool, but I also shrank to 3-foot tall, I tried to look into the mirror but it decided to fall.
Each of your steps on the cardboard ground tore, you began to boil so I ripped out your cling film windows and threw them to the floor.
Your fire burned away my mesh and your empire collapsed and as the beams shone through I realised all the things I’d misconstrued about you.
The heat curled the envelopes and the messages were shown, I looked down to read one and realised I had grown.
Your mask was dripping like candle wax because you knew now that I’d been shown the facts.
And so again into the air I fled, my burning feet were ripped into those shreds, but the ground was so smooth even though it was being decorated red,
but at least here I can sit with my needle and thread.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
