I wrote it just now as I post it. It is in its rough original stroke but yours [bodytext] => Shelby

I was gone so many years
A vagabond who vanishes in the night
Tied down and beaten
cast into the lot
and tied to the mast as I sailed away
I could not fathom the depths of my loss
My friends abandoned to the shore
so it seems
So callous the vagabond has become
they must think.

I could only stare into the night
and pray that my darling Michelle
Could look upon the same stars and know
I was not without her.
She danced in my thoughts
swirling in the rain as I wept
Hands restrained
I could not reach out
Lips sewn shut I could not speak
I was just gone.
Like I never existed but in your mind.

Oh Michelle I have seen you often
a pirouette turned perfectly in the storm
the rain falling from the sky
In sadness
was not but from your cheeks
Oh to have been able to gently brush
the tears with my palm
to warm you with my heart
to let you know it would be ok
that you can dance on
in any torrent or pain.
You can live on and see the sun
in my eyes someday
for I shall escape and return
to tell you I love you my friend.

But I did tell you
as I grasped the moon
with my eyes
and held it in my heart
My dancer there
to share the glow
of that which could not be crushed.
I am alive still
and my heart it still beats
though beaten it may have been
and you I have always treasured
My dear friend
You are the treasure I would not sell
not for freedom
not for any price.

Even if you hate me for my magic
my disappearance
I shall treasure you
A ghost whose shadow
was all that could be remembered.
But it was not by my magic
It was the darkness that took me
and in darkness I lived
Chained without voice
Chained without love
Even a beggar can reach out and wave
But I was not allowed that
My captors made sure
I would sink into the darkest of waters
dead and forgotten.

I could not rise
I could not swim
No down deep in the mud
I wallowed as the timbers rotted
but rot they did
And time won me to surface
eight years too late.

But chains do not rot so quickly
they bind me still
and they wretch my soul
to rust
and to weep
.

This is incredibly beautiful and to think you wrote it "on the fly" as some would say shows extreme talent.

I am impressed.

Thanks,

Tim
