More takin than givin
Surrounded in towns
I found myself in.

Blue pill poppin people,
Swallowin sheeple,
Believin things that are good
In this new age are sins.

Hard to find smiles,
A thousand faces and miles,
Surrounded by frowns
Wearing hard on my grin.

Recollectin my youth,
Believin folks spoke the truth
Like, I could be anything I wanted to be….
But decades have shown in storms blowin and blown,
It’s only true for the few, born in the right wind.

Years ve piled on days-
n I’m so amazed,
Gone is the bitter, just memories of sad,
No longer frettin for money, reachin for wrong,
I hum only happy, Loves sweetest song
from the day rollin round...a little gold band,
and the blessings that came...to me with her hand.

Great poem Mike. Be warned younger folks as you approach 50 years old this is the way you think no matter your lifestyle. I guess reality comes forth.
Life is short, enjoy your youth. well said Mike!

It is great when you reach that level
hmm memories
I heard someone say something that has stuck with me
as I grow older
"youth is wasted on youth"
to know then what we know now.....

This has a western, aw shucks twang and a sing-songy rhythm that winds along your tale! Layer upon layer you help us recall the assaults of life that rub away our sharp edges and leave behind a mellow weathered wood.
The last two lines tie it up like a ribbon and leave us the most generous of gifts = hope.
A gentle, funny, wise, resilient, and enduring spirit
dances us to his tune! Thank you for sharing the backroads of your journey. softerware
