when every other line is just a forced rhyme
and when you/'/ve lived your life collecting muses like i have,
you begin to lose track and your menagerie strains.
but the nature of the beasts is that they cannot be trained
and writhing in my brain are feelings i cannot contain
and burning in my heart is a fire that is fueled by sap
flavored by love songs and trapped in war against the ever encroaching tide of loneliness.
love struck like the matches you used to kindle this flame.
and here, i come back to you, over and over again.
i see you as a soul i Want as more than a friend;
and my heart, it splinters under the heat
and each shard grows whole while this song plays on repeat,
like a chorus of angels bent on destruction
or a cacophony of demons praying for redemption.
but these hearts that i was given to hold--
i carry, as they weigh heavy on my soul.
i kindle a flame to keep each one warm,
while my own grows cold.

Beautifully written. I can definitely relate as i am sure so many of us can.

"like a chorus of angels bent on destruction"
"or a cacophony of demons praying for redemption"

are two of my favorite lines. Keep up the great work.

Rich

A wonderful poem. Full of emotions. I know the feelings expressed. Great job!
