[hometext] => Desperation is an awful thing. Show some light to those in the dark
[bodytext] => This lack of empathy astounds me
He was a boy with a family
He was a boy who struggled just like you
more than you, but to you hes just another
one who couldnt put it down
one whose blackout in our town
one who did it too himself
what if you could have been the one to help?
This pettiness is overwhelming
Who are you to judge when you dont know his story
Maybe he got injured and prescribed some pills
He realized they took his pain, but cost too many bills
In his head he knows that its wrong
but its cheaper and its strong
and everybody walks past by, not knowing all he wanted to hear
was "are you doing alright?"
but to you hes just another
one who couldnt put it down
one whose blackout in our town
one who did it too himself
what if you could have been the one to help
I get it, youve never been an addict
Hopeless variety store stealing your next package
Or on the streets, sick for a fix
Hoping to numb the pain, sipping from your fifth
so for now hes just another
one who couldnt put it down
one whose blackout in our town
one who did it too himself
what if you could have been the one to help
Lets try to change the world today
ask "how can I help you" instead of "how did you become this way"
Show some hope to those who need it
instead of walking by
Show some unconditional love
Like we knew when we were young
Someone was there for us
Thats why we didnt do
what they do
what I do.
We keep seeing on the news about all these people overdosing, dying, 21 years old.
And we just say "thats sad"
then we go back to whatever show we were watching.
We could be out there going to meetings, going to the streets and talking, just have a conversation.
Because I know, hope is a beautiful thing.
If you can love someone whose an addict or an alcoholic, you might change their life.
But if you go down the road just judging, without trying to understand or walk a mile in someone elses shoes
You have no right to tell them "Its all in your head" or "Why cant you just put the needle down, the bottle down, or the pills down?"
Show some compassion.
"You dont have to live like this"
"I want to help"
"I love you"

People have different coping mechanisms. Some are more constructive than others. |

This is a provocative piece, and I sympathize. I will defer to accept your position for its sincere intent. To disagree would tarnish your heartfelt message, and that is not what YPDC is about. Let me say that you are courageous to approach this topic with such conviction. And I do admire that you have found an answer that you can support.

It takes an addict to help a fellow addict. Compassion should be rampant for addiction, as it gets its grip on every family. But loving someone in the throes of addiction is tricky business. Enabling helps no one. Plus, it is a tough go to watch a loved one destroy themselves. As the saying goes; be the change you wish to see. Hopefully others will follow your lead.
Thanks for posting.
