You should have known he would have grown;
Much wiser than you wanted.
Sleep well tonight, they won your fight;
And may your dreams be haunted. [comments] => 3 [counter] => 100 [topic] => 57 [informant] => softerware [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => war )
Too Young to Know

Topic: war

Old enough to fight your war;
Too young to buy a beer.
No matter what you battle for;
You can’t have both, I fear.

Youve turned a boy into a man;
You cannot turn him back.
He’s climbed your hill and learned to kill;
You can’t give Jill her Jack.

You should have known he would have grown;
Much wiser than you wanted.
Sleep well tonight, they won your fight;
And may your dreams be haunted.

Beautiful poem. I grew up hearing the stories as my mother had six brothers just in WWll and my father had five brothers in the same war. Both were the youngest of twelve.

Not too much later came Korea and their children ended up in Nam. It ruined many a life and the sacrifice was huge. A sad poem but a true one. Beautifully written.

I have an uncle that was in Vietnam, he is in no way normal now. Some days he seems chipper and others he is completely silent. I remember one time, it was my first time seeing him in a decade and he looked at me for all of 2 seconds and didn/'/t say anything. The next time I saw him, he seemed to be in a great mood. But you can never really know what to expect from him on any given day. War changes people. I enjoyed reading this.

Your descriptive piece evoked all kinds of emotions.
They won your fight in more ways than one.
