A murder to solve, a soft-hearted frail;
A who-done-it villain and clues to the trail?
Were actors who play on a dimly lit stage;
Puppets on strings til the very last page!
Time and reality offer no sway;
While we climb in a book for a nice lengthy stay;
With a child who is teaching our grown up to play!

Great poem. Can be said for the old movies too.
You captured the essence of a good read for sure.
But most of the intrigue is gone. You can/'/t even write a good mystery because every fool now has a cellphone..
We are lucky because we remember when.....

I love it. The creation
of an individual, and almost out of thin air,
that almost at once captures your imagination,
and you hold onto, a character, perhaps vastly
different than yourself, until the very end.
You become something of value yourself, as the reader,
you go somewhere, perhaps you worried
a lot about, or you were intrigued by someone you
never could have imagined, who had extraordinary
intellect, while at the same time facing uncertainty as well as empathy and poverty, as well as a long list of
expectation, almost as if you have walked
in someone else/'/s shoes --- and if it/'/s a good
story, no matter how long, it becomes really true,
you really did at least learn something, about
yourself, after all, since it sparked your imagination, "you really are a character who lies in wait",
you penciled this into the margin of some certain page
only noting it latter on years later when
you reread the story again.

Confined to a wheel chair, a retired historian
sets out to write his grandparents remarkable
story....
"It/'/s not a big rock mountain candy, and the love
of letters, to hold onto / work to be done/ the men who work so hard and suffer for so little/it/'/s not fair/

its splendor/ knowing this".

I see the educator and teacher in you dancing with your inner-bard and painting once again with a choreography of rhythm and colors of thought. How beautifully it reminds us of the joys of reading( and reminds me of my own guilt in that I oft/'/ not)! |

Between Youtube, Netflix, etc...reading a book is sadly becoming a lost art. Says alot about the world we now find ourselves in where our children read as little as the have to because they have to and not because the want to. But for those of us that remember what it is like the read, it is our inner child that rests within those pages that remind us what it is like to be young once more. In someways it is our fault that our children no longer want to read but on the other the blame rests on the society in which our children have grown and are growing up in.
