Guards throughout the night.
No recognition?
No one understand his plight!

Hair like straw.
Unruly law.
Well fed, often stuffed.
Unkempt, not neat, often roughed!

No eyes nor ear.
Yet seems to peer.
Projects much fear!
Untrained job not clear!

Old straw hat,
or ugly cap.
Stiff arms, few charms.
Yet alarms,
any foe close or near by!

Stand alone,
No freedom to roam!
Forbidden exercise,
without muscle tone!

No woman need apply,
Used as "stand-by."
Thrives 'neath hot sun!
Dried out 'til done!

No wages paid.
Continuous sunshade.
Courageous, unafraid!
Strong gusts,
Endures locusts!

Windblown.
Post for backbone,
Ancestors not known!
Lives in "Danger Zone!"

Kin to Mailman
All weather stand!
Rain, hail, cloudburst!
Remains steady, and cursed!

Needs no heart,
to tear apart!
Faithful and Loyal too!
Deserves much love.
No admiration from a Dove!

Has "LockJaw!"
Big Birds "Caw"
Birds may bow,
catch on somehow?
Humilated and subdued!
Owner's right down "Rude!"

No one appreciates,
often put-down, cut-down, melt-down.
Name to know.........?
"MR. SCARECROW!"

I've always wanted
to write a poem
about the poor
scarecrow...now it's done!
I surely had fun!

Yay! I'm so proud of myself. I figured out who it was by the third verse. I always felt bad for Mr. Scarecrow, too.

And now we're off to see the wizard!

Thanks for the fun poem.

We must honor these idols Americana
----------------------------------------------------
I once needed work and I asked for the job,
I was told right away I was too much a slob
My schoolin' rendered me unqualified,
The birds protested, I could have died.

this is so charming - we have lots of farms where I live - and I often see these poor creatures - beaten and faded - now I'll never look at them the the same way again - I too feel sorry for them
