Array ( [sid] => 23203 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => A Simple Cross [time] => 2003-09-14 12:45:00 [hometext] => I was in a cemetary when I wrote this, I was inspired by one grave marker that was just a simple cross. [bodytext] => A simple cross stands in an empty field
It marks the spot of a nameless child
She was but three

Still young and seemingly full of hope but
So much can be hidden
Behind her happy mask

The beatings, the harsh words, the burning and the touching
Her cries and screams echoed through the house
As her mother sobbed behind the locked door

She thought her daddy loved her
What did she do wrong?
Can she fix it?
Or must he give her more?

One night he snapped and beat her body till it bled and bled
No more can she endure
She cried out for her mother who ran to see the sight
Her daddy ran right out the door
Her mother held her body limp and raw

A small grave her mother dug to bury her baby gurl
And walked away to find a new life
Never to return

That simple cross still stands there
It marks the spot of a nameless child
Who was but 3
And no one mourns this little girl
And no one ever will. [comments] => 8 [counter] => 211 [topic] => 39 [informant] => Night_Child [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 10 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Grief )

Oh, my word, that was just about the saddest poem i ever beheld..... But you did it with such taste, with little phrases just jumping out at you ("no one ever will", "never to return"). That was sensational writing my friend- keep it up!

Love Joy and Peace,
Jellybellyprincess

What a beautifully haunting poem,
You have captured the nightmare world so many of our children are living and sadly dying.
A great write
