she was longing for a way
to be important in his life
hoping maybe some day.

She reaches out to hold him
he blindly slips on by
she's an afterthought within his mind
one day she'll no longer try.

She saw the look upon his face
as she crumbled in his sight
building walls to shield herself
she knew she'd run in flight.

The promise is always broken
a quest to own some piece of her
and once the box is opened
only the hatred stirs.

It's better just to hide from him
every nuance of the pain
he'll not wish to understand it all
nor care he's part of the same.

Travels to the hurt exist
she alone can make the trip
sometimes making detours
from solace she will slip.

She'll not forget her sacred vow
one made unto herself
that as soon as they show disgust
she'd jump down from her shelf.

She'd run into the forest
a trail of tears is all to find
he turned his back and walked away
she left her soul behind.

She pops a pill and rolls the smoke
a shell of what she'd been
he climbs the hill and cracks the joke
validating every sin.
