Cold dark dungeon, with cement walls,
silenced, no light, much fright, anxieites,
could neither talk, understand or peek!
To touch, but not know, to scream, but not hear!
No communications, nor endearment, only
dreary austerity!
Despot life, controlled, unbearable, each
living moment with no future, nor fore-warning,
only hopeless severity!

Eating what? Tasting what? Sitting where?
Next to whom? And why there?
Living Tomb, unaware?
No encouragement weakens, but never having,
how can a blind one know the missing link?
Influenced by all we see, touch, taste, smell
without, it's impossible to think!

Without logic, or reasoning,
no books nor images.
Even natural inclinations,
are mysterious guesses.
When I feel this urge, why must I sit,
where you place me?
Not even understanding, clean,
dirty, or even comfy!

Our hearts are buried deep in our chests,
under our ribs for protection.
When all other senses are taken from us,
it's our heart that replaces
the missing action.
Seat of motivation, impressions, sensibilities,
packed with emotion, inspiration, and affection.

An unkind word can hurt, but you
never forget how it felt.
A beating may leave a welt, but it's not
forgotten, because it's heartfelt!
Do you appreciate the things that only
we can feel with our hearts?
A warm loving hug, a door opened
for us to depart?

A geniune smile, feelings behind it,
knowing they care....
Some one you know that goes out of their
way to share?
A special dish prepared just the way you desire,
or cookies baked just to say.....love to aspire!

A kind gesture without asking, "Please?"
A thoughtful person that reached out
to help you with ease.
A neighbor knows the "flu" bug
visited your house.
A carefully prepared covered dish,
for you and your spouse.

You feel that with your heart,
and will never forget!
A long distance phone call, to say, "I love you,"
and was thinking about you, and just
wanted you to know.
No special occasion, no birthday,
no anniversary, no regret.
Simple loving thoughtfulness,
sets your heart aglow!

The lady I feel so honored to write about today
is known to us all, as Helen Keller,
blindness, deafness, was her prey.
And, yet, she never stopped feeling,
as she would say,
"The best and most beautiful things in the world, cannot be seen, nor touched but are
felt in the heart!"
Do you feel with your heart, each and everyday?

When you hug your little ones close to your
heart, can you feel theirs beating?
When you kiss your loved one goodbye, do you
do it with feelings in your heart, lingering?
How long has it been since you did some
small thing for someone you barely know at all?
Did you do it with feeling coming from your heart, or just didn't have time,
so didn't do it at all?

Helen Keller was so right, speaking through
her hands, she never could have said
anything more lasting for us with eyes that
see, and ears that hear.....she knew what was
the most important for her, and we.
Having feelings in your heart, and
transferring them to others graciously!

That was one of the most awsome poems I have read in a long time.. I could close my eyes and see her sitting there feeling only with her heart. That was amazing and very inspireing... Keep up the awsome work..

brilliant poem, lovingcritters!
I was born deaf, so i would know how half of that poem goes. luckily though, after countless operations, i was given back 20-30% of my hearing. Seeing that my parents only noticed i wasn't speaking or responding by the age of four, i was always behind my peers. but with hard work i managed to catch up with the help of speech lessons and some hearing lessons.
I was always told to get hearing aids, but i always refused! though i could hear some words i had to teach myself to lip read-that helped alot!
but all this ended, april 2003 the weekend of my birthday. A pastor and several others had me in the lounge and we prayed to christ that He would give me complete healing! That night i layed down all my pain and i trusted in God.
A month later a hearing test came back saying i had ABOVE normal hearing!! I can hear and i'm loving it. doctors couldn't understand how it happened. but i do - GOD!!
But still the thought have having to be deaf again, frightens me. its not something to laugh about. i'm 17 now, so God restored my hearing to me while i was still young and i praise Him for that!

Thank you lovingcritters!
