Array ( [sid] => 35286 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => EVERGREEN [time] => 2004-02-17 04:14:39 [hometext] => The little redbird helped the Pine Tree get it's name. It should have been called, kindness. [bodytext] =>

A lowly little sparrow dropped into my yard.
I could see it trying to fly, struggling hard.
With each gust of wind it was
nearly blown apart!
Wishing to fly, but injured in some way,
unable to depart.

My heart was hurting for him, not
knowing what to do.
"I'm coming little chickadee, to help you!"
I'd placed my oven gloves over my hands.
Outside, following him where the
wind commands.

He was terribly frightened of me, I was
speaking so very kindly.
"What will I do with you little birdie,
Chickdee?
I will place you in the bird house by the
Mountain Pine tree."
As I placed him inside, my heart
thrilled with a beat.
Once again, the Mountain Pine was
protecting, and sweet.
I recalled another time in my life when
this was really neat!

*************************************************

A tiny red bird, with broken wing, could not
fly, nor do anything.
He pleaded with all the trees he could see.
The Oak said, "No, not me!"
White Aspen, refused, and him,
wouldn't even see.
But the Majestic Pine held it's branches down
low, and said, "You can stay with me."

He carefully caressed the pretty red bird,
with love and kindness.
All the other trees just laughed, because
of his dumbness.
"Hey you, Pine," they said, "You'll have to
keep him all winter!
Protecting him from the cold, each day
giving him his dinner!"

The harassment had little or no affect
on the Pine.
During the day he spread his branches
wide, so the little bird could feel the sunshine.
At dusk, he snuggled him close to his trunk,
near his heart for warmth, and comfort.
The Pine nursed him all winter,
with loving effort!

At the break of a new Spring Day, a beautiful
lady with wings appeared.
"I'm known as Mother Nature" with her
melodic voice endeared.
"I've come to talk to you trees this time of year,
'tis my duty to inform.......
"You will be losing your leaves at the end
of summer now.
All of you trees, that could not lovingly take
in my little red bird, nor comfort allow!"

"But you Majestic Pine, standing so regal,
so fine.
From this day forward, you will never be
without your furrier divine.
Because you felt pity in your heart, and
showed kindness from the start.
I will rename you also, even throughout
the winter, you will always stay green.
I now pronounce your new name to be
"Evergreen!"

*************************************************

I learned this story when I was in kindergarten.
Oh My, that was 62 years ago.....and I'd
always want to fly.
I was chosen to be the little redbird with
the broken wing.
As I drug one leg upon the stage,
the largest child (the Pine) put his arms
around me for a bonding.

I was only 5 at the time, but I'll never forget
how wonderful that felt......
To be in his arms, and know, that I had a home as I knelt!
It taught me to be very kind, like that of the Pine.
Always having room in your heart to love
just one more, throwing them a lifeline!

That is so lovely. I give names to all of the trees in my yard..I have a silver-dollar Eucalyptus tree that is home to many of the wild birds that we feed. I live in the California Desert, so we don't have a large variety of birds, but twice a year, two yellow breasted black birds pass through..they stay for three days, eating and drinking. I look forward to it every year...we've become their "rest-stop" I guess...If only I could tell them how much pleasure they bring!

This was lovely. Reminded me of when my daughter fell 25 feet from a tree. The bottom branches caught her and lovinly laid her on the ground at my husband's fee. Praise God! She was fine. Thank you for sharing this.
