It has been with sincerely earnest and heartfelt desire,
That I have longed for man to amend his errant ways.
Yet as I age and with a degree of wisdom…now I can see,
Nothing will change…till the end of mankind’s days.

We will continue to hate…continue to kill,
Continue to hone our skills with bloody war.
Intolerance and bigotry will still mark our way,
Unforgiveness the permanent lintel over humanity’s door.

The poor and the hungry will remain ignored,
Injustice will gain strength…always alive and healthy.
So many will die needlessly…in pure want and need,
While the controlling minority grow disgustingly wealthy.

Politicians will continue to lie and distort the truth,
Seldom shedding light on agendas plans and schemes.
Money will continue to be the God of this age,
And corruption…the thief of so many dreams.

Pollution will prevail…we will yet pillage our globe,
Despite all the publicity and the environment failing.
Apathy and greed will grow fat and prosper,
And heaven only knows what the terrorists will be mailing?

We will hopelessly meddle in areas of ‘dangerous science,’
Leaping into zones we have no right to even dare.
Experimentation and manipulation of life itself,
Of our ineptness and fragility we are seldom aware.

Yet we will blunder on as we always have done,
Teetering on the slippery stepping-stones of disaster.
Always professing our superior technology and thinking,
Oblivious of our fallibility…racing to perdition even faster.
