The last time I saw you…you looked so serene,
All the worries of life you had left behind.
The makeup lady had done such a wonderful job,
And even at that time you looked so kind.

You lay in your casket…beautiful yet oh so cold,
I just could not restrain the flood of tears.
I watched you closely and remembered so clearly,
The guidance and love you had displayed for years.

But the image of you in that hospital ICU,
Will haunt me forever…it is as though it was yesterday.
Your charred and blistered body clung to life,
Eleven years later…the memory still fills me with dismay.

You fought so tenaciously…so typical of you,
But the injuries this time…were just too severe.
That house fire indeed took a mighty soul,
You fought well…for life you held so dear.

We laid you to rest amid tears and emotion,
Devastated we all stood there and felt so alone.
You had always been there…but now you were gone,
You had left us…and gone to another home.

But I will remember you…you were a special soul,
Your qualities and values…were a weighty sum.
You have been gone now…it seems forever and a day,
And I am still so proud to call you my Mum.

My mother’s birthday was 28/12/22…it is always a time of reflection and remembrance of her at Christmas time.

Excellent write. I felt your loss in the words you used.
Hoping you have found peace and know she smiles and watches over you.

I am sorry for your loss and that you have to deal with such vivid memories of her death. But Mothers live on forever inside us and she is living inside all of you. She will be with you in your heart and soul until you join her again.
