[bodytext] => The best time in popular music was when indie beats met dance, Primal Scream and Happy Mondays to a chemical romance. The Stone Roses cut out the middle man with an album of baggy heaven Dread heads became ravers in warehouse gigs in Devon. The Mock Turtles and the Soup Dragons suddenly sprang to life, The Shamen found electronica and cut though the charts like a knife. Obscurity knocked for shoe-gazers and rockers who couldn’t adapt. As the Inspiral Carpets showed us tunes and De La Soul showed up rap. DJs started to become bigger than the 12” discs they span then, As the parties became so big the Government couldn’t ban them Hooded tops and ecstasy mixed side by side with Goths, They’d all dance their faces off to The Cure or Tribe of Toffs. Then Oasis, Blur and PULP were unleashed to an unsuspecting world, And the scene just crumbled under their weight as the Brit-pop flag unfurled. But that short time that made it ok for us indie-kids to go on a bender And dance our asses off at Manchester’s legendary Hacienda.
