You were my fresh air.
You were my beautiful distortion.
You were my fairy tale in a gift box.
You were my brand new pair of shoes.
Most of all, you were a tall sunflower
peeking out over the weeds.

So I picked you
but you didn’t belong in my vase,
with it’s heavy glass and twisty neck.

Each petal was a fighter
but they each eventually fell to their fate.

My violin plays you.
But my memory doesn't do you justice.
It plays the sound of your jet black hair
swaying in the summer breeze,
like the ghost of a raven.
It plays the comfort of your concern.
It plays your heartsong in all its fragile glory.
It plays your smile plowed over by tears.
My violin plays you as I release you
back into the garden.

To Ben,
I love you.
I wish you the best.
