to keep my head above the surface
so i can take just one more breath
survive for one more minute.
I remember when the water was clear,
calm, and warm--relaxing.
As my mind was polluted with thoughts of you
the waves rose to the challenge.
The water is black.
Dirty with despise.
Dragging me down,
Cold as death.
How far down is the bottom?
How far down would I sink?
Or would I burn up before
the water filled my lungs?
I've been denying the end
putting off the inevitable
for 15 long years of hell.
How much longer will I survive?
My strength is gone!
Each breath seems a marathon.
I haven't been able to feel--
to love--to give
Only to search--to want
But I've found nothing. [comments] => 4 [counter] => 154 [topic] => 61 [informant] => liquidchaos [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 10 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 0 [associated] => [topicname] => selfstruggles )

Some people's very pressence seem to sap energy and strength from the people they are around. You put that into words excellently. And I love the use of water as a metaphor. It's excellent. I hope the water goes calm and clean again for you soon,
