She'd wear a pink Bandana
Tied around her right wrist.
I can't even remember
Seeing her without it on.
It's strange how something
As simple as a pink bandana
Can bring back so many memories.

I remember resting one hand
On an empty bed,
The other hand
Holding her bandana.
I paid no attention to the people
Crying behind me,
Yet somehow I knew
What they were saying all along.
I turned around,
Left the room,
And woke up in tears two seconds later.

Getting out of bed,
I dabbed my eyes with a tissue
And tried to convince myself
That everything was fine.
I went to school
And came home,
Still thinking baout the dream.
I was starting to forget about it all
When the phone rang.
It was for me.

Half an hour later
I was in the hospital.
One hand was resting
On an empty bed,
The other hand
Holding her bandana.
I paid no attention
To the people crying behind me,
Yet somehow I knew
What they were saying all along.
I turned around,
Left the room,
And started crying two seconds later.

It's been a while since that day,
But I still wake up sometimes
In the middle of the night, crying.
I guess you can never know
What happens next in life,
So it's important
To let your loved ones know you care.
Sometimes if you don't
You could end up
With nothing left
But memories and a pink bandana.

I've been wearing one
Around my right wrist
Ever since that day
And I don't intend
To ever take it off.
