the opposing team
was up by one

their server
smacked the ball
over the net
back and forth
back and forth
finally
they went up
for the spike
she crushed
the ball
onto our side
of the court
the winning team
cheered;
while tears
sprang
to my eyes
I made my way
up the stands
you looked into my eyes,
wet with tears,
and gave me your shoulder
to cry on
we walked out
into the rainy
night air
in silence
you know I (**/**) you
I know you (**/**) me
everytime
I need your shoulder
you have it ready
you wipe away
all my tears
and make my world
a little
brighter
