my childhood
slowly fading away
I should be sorry
I know I should
though I can’t make it stay
…don’t want to neither

It went so fast
with each passing day
learning to act
learning to live
the grown-up way

Was I a caterpillar?
feeding on this world
the little watching girl
trying to understand

Am I now a butterfly?
Or maybe a moth?
Still my skin baby-soft
I’m scared, will you hold my hand?

What became of the ugly duckling?
The swan now vanishes in the crowd
And my dreams? Dissolved in nothing
Not allowed to speak out loud

So the difference? Merely none
cynical instead of naive
let us call it evolution
let us call it revolution
my childhood forever…
…gone…

O, this is so sweet, pure and surprising. So many people are glad that they are no longer children and that they can be their own boss. But I know that sometimes you long to be a child again. I can strongly relate to this poem. Truly beautiful.
Greetz,
Hur

I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND. I WISH SOMETIMES THAT I CAN TURN BACK THE CLOCK AND STAY 12YRS. OLD FOR A FEW YEARS! TIME GOES BY SO FAST. WE HAVE TO TREASURE WHAT WE HAVE NOW. GOOD POEM! KEEP IT UP!

Do not hold the adult to the pedstal, but the child, in the child is forever the gift and one who talks so loud.

Great write, Thank you.
