are bright red;
the painful tears in my eyes
are empty blue.

But every color of this awful rainbow
can't bring me any closer to you.
And every color of this painful rainbow
can't endear me at all to people like you.

The shredding of my heart into pieces
is cold gray;
the raping of my mind and soul
is deep blood red.
And the freezing over of all that's left
is screaming white.

But every color of this awful rainbow
can't bring me any closer to you.
And every color of this painful rainbow
can't endear me at all to people like you.

And the excruciating pain of your words
are sharp, clear diamond;
Gone are the days of grass and skies
gone are the peaceful blues and greens.
Gone is the happiness shining bright yellow
and bereft here I am existing
without the colors that make up real life.

But every color of this awful rainbow
couldn't bring me any closer to you.
And every color of this painful rainbow
couldn't endear me at all to people like you.

Where is the yellow and where is the orange?
Where is the happiness and where is the love?
These colors I am left with,
red, blue, and gray.
And now all that happens is rain,
pouring from these clouded rainbows,
pouring upon my colored canvas;
smearing the colors together
in one hateful scream;
mixing them together
into a dark awful black.
Where did the rainbow go?
Where have the colors of the rainbow gone?

But every color of this awful rainbow
couldn't bring me any closer to you.
And every color of this painful rainbow
couldn't endear me at all to people like you. [comments] => 2 [counter] => 155 [topic] => 13 [informant] => waos [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 10 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => DarkPoetry )

I cannot for the life of me visualize this rainbow. They must come in different colors where you live. Mine are beautiful and skittle colored and only give beauty. Let me know where you live, I don't ever want to move there.

I for one find intriguing the idea of using a rainbow, which is generally considered a bright and pretty thing, as a metaphor for woe and despondency. The contrast makes this poem work.

"smearing the colors together
in one hateful scream;
mixing them together
into a dark awful black.
Where did the rainbow go?
Where have the colors of the rainbow gone?"

Beautifully expressed. One last thought--this would make a great song too!

Truly,
-V.S.
