(Broken smiles join today, to gaily reminisce
Glasses lifted overhead, foreboding whisky’s kiss
In solemn words solemnities by sprain’ed hope dismissed
The shattered wine glass echoes under moonlight's wintry bliss)

Long ago, upon a time ere smiles shattered hope
Ere truth hurt more than anything and trust dared not elope
From boom to bust a sorry wish had struggled ‘gainst the slope
But candle flame’s now withered next to ashen misanthrope

Seven sleepless midnights steal a sailing summer’s spell
Fragile feathers fracture flow for flailing failure’s fell
Taciturn topography terrific fortunes tell;
Belove’d words have never once revealed the fun’ral bell.

Flickering through cold barriers in a vain attempt to warm
The winds that never made it through too soon began to storm
Shadows cast by nobody by bitter thoughts took form
A little lamp was left behind in lethal midnight storms

In truth he sought the memories with azure skies burned gray
Uncouth, time fraught with Emory did murder wand’rer’s way
Where everything writes symphonies and map routes run astray
--A lost lamp found eternity but never found today--

And regrets come together at death's door,
To in final toast to fabled days of yore:

"Sweet morrow,
To virtue let us drink
To days of joy to never come
And nights bereft of sleep;
To failure's lament let us hum
To past times,

Let us weep."

~A Toast To Tassanor

I have read this three times now! Everything I love about poetry is present here; a thought provoking title, extremely strong and concurrent rhymes, spellbinding diction, immaculate flow and structure, and of course, that undeniable (and unidentifiable) "spark."

"Seven sleepless midnights steal a sailing summer’s spell
Fragile feathers fracture flow for flailing failure’s fell"

I absolutely loved the tongue-twisting alliteration you employed in those lines.

Does this all seem like too much praise...because, in my opinion, this is not nearly enough. So good, it's not even funny.

Buried in roaring avalanche,
-V.S.

In your letter to me you did not add your name as a good poet. You are one. I hope your sorrow fades and your drinking lessons
