Array ( [sid] => 50453 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => DEVELOP GENUINE LOVE [time] => 2004-06-04 20:26:40 [hometext] => An interesting observation upon writing this poem. The quote was written in 1871...the world we live in now is so different. How many families do you see sit down quietly together, without the TV blaring or the computer running, just to talk? [bodytext] =>

"DEVELOP GENUINE LOVE"

"Love is the elixir of life; love is life!"
~Living to Purpose, by Joseph Johnson, 1871~

How do humans learn to love?
By studying psychology? From Him Above?
Watching romantic movies, self-help books?
Humans learn to love by example,. parents as guidebooks.

Warm, kind environment, love will be taught.
Seeing their parents feed and protect them, love besought!
Communicating with them, taking a deep personal interest in them.
Parents teach love when praising them more than condemn.

Genuine Love is more than just affection, or sentiment,
A child must be taught right from wrong, to be prudent.
Considering the interests of others too!
Children deeply loved learn how to trust through you.

Above all else, Love must be taught by example.
As a husband, do you esteem you wife?
Do you treat her with honor or awful?
Wives should treat their husband with respect, not dreadful.

If only parents realized how important example can be.
They are teaching their young ones love they can see.
This is teaching them Love at work firsthand.
What a powerful and valuabe lesson 'tis grand!

Showing Love means setting high standards.
Entertainment, morality, goals, and priorities.
Set fine goals for them, help them soar upwards.
Lovingly firm, don't compromise, don't appease.

Disciplining your child is also Loving him.
It takes time, effort, and is lots of work.
Without loving discipline, your life and theirs will be grim.
Working together, Love can be taught.........
it takes teamwork.

(I must add here, that I was a single parent with my four, and I was able to do it alone, so for those of you that are single parents, this will help you too!)

your poem speaks many truths. the values of america at least have sunk to new lows in many areas; i do not know about the rest of the world but the same is probably true to some degree. im glad you are setting an example for others to follow.
