Remind him he’s a huge disappointment with the cruel things we've said
Who really cares what this boy truly believes in?
We’re too shallow and quick to judge, always constantly pursuing
We don’t like his cover so why read his book?
Punish him, take away some joy...the more and more we took
Some sickness in our head has our thoughts in disarray
We wonder why he doesn’t spend more time at home each day
Just another disappointment from this stubborn little boy
We’ll teach him to not come home, we’ll take away another toy!

Mommy and daddy say I need to grow up
Some times they scream I wish it’d all stop
I don’t know why they’re so upset with me
I try so hard I just wish they could see...

God forbid this young man develop his own personality
We’re older and more experienced we’ll tell him who to be!
We thought it was just a stage, maybe it would pass
But he just won’t listen, we can’t let this last!

I need to live my life and grow in my own way
But when we talk It doesn’t matter what I say
They know what’s best
They won’t let it rest
I just want to be me
God let me be free!!

He’s just so different not the son we expected
He never listens, our best efforts rejected
Punish him we will, take away his new car
...Maybe then he’ll see he’s gone too far

What a f%$#@#& understatement “life isn’t fair”
No matter how hard I try it seems like they don’t care
Like trying to make a fish fly
We just can’t see eye to eye
Sometimes it hurts so much, I feel so deranged
I like who I am...but I still try to change!
Try as I may this is who I’m gonna be
No matter what I say they’ll never love me...
God let me be free
He’ll love me for me
He knows what’s best
Just please let me rest...

If only we could turn back time we might understand...
Sometimes in life we mean good but only cause endless pain
We tried to brighten the life of our son but brought only rain
If only we could erase that pain
Take back all that rain
Just listened for once maybe gave some support
Gave our love more often than a saved last resort...
If only we could erase that pain, take away all that rain
Take back our beautiful son that’s now lost...slain

The two sides that you represent here is very eye-opening! Makes one think. Brought back memories. This was good. Peace to you.

Excellent poem. I like how it goes back and forth between the child and the parents, it's very well written. Thank you fro sharing.
