[bodytext] => GOD…AND SUFFERING…(©Peter Sprenkeler) Look around…pause for a moment…and dwell, This is indeed a hurting and troubled world. So much tragedy…so much pain and suffering, Sadly so much blame at our Maker is hurled. Many question He exists for this very reason, How can a supposed loving God allow babies to die? If He is all-powerful and in control why won’t He stop, All the grief and suffering that makes us cry? That in itself is a very relevant and important question, But we err greatly to blame God for all our pain. For most of the wretched facets of human existence, We ourselves have created in the main. We cannot blame God for pollution and deforestation, We cannot blame Him for our environmental mess. You could itemize many maladies…none His fault, Apportioning blame…is something we must address. Inflicting pain and suffering is not a part of God’s character, For us He sent His own Son in our place to die. A loving God calls us…particularly in times of pain, Trying to draw near…for our tears to lovingly dry. He will use these times to heal and establish a contact, To those whom His name will curse and fiercely deny. Yet there are those whom have nothing left but anguish, And fall on their knees at His feet to cry. I will not for a moment say I have all the answers, Pain and suffering is just a routine part of life. You can blame everyone…in anger and outrage lash out, But to say God does not care…must cut Him as with a knife. Tragedy and grief at times can be grotesquely unjust, It is in our nature to blame God at the slightest whim. He watches over us…and loves…even though we do Him great wrong, When all He desires…is for us in our suffering…to always cling to Him.
