THE AWAKENING PART TWO

Light intensified, a tender sweet smell of flowers hit my nose,
Everywhere servants came in to light lamps.
Robed figures some hooded all around dignitary’s rose.

Holding a golden mirror up to my face,
I see wide eyes, a face so proud and a sense of curiosity.
There was a frisson of excitement I could almost taste.

Ones cloak was sand stained and his feet were dirty on the grainy dappled floor,
He bowed in front of me.
‘My Lord you have come! Your people are arriving and your loyal army’,
Excitement gave me strength I looked composed and shore.

I am a commander I thought,
It Is I who command and you must obey.
Flies were buzzing around my head and banging into my skull like self-immolation.
This was confusing but this was my assembly court.

If you do right,
You may be punished.
But if you do wrong,
You could be a Lord.

But do I think courage is all it takes to govern men?
I had walked into a past long ago…
Could time be out to charm me…?
Or had my dreams just embalmed me…?

A servant offered me a drink from a silver platter,
I enjoyed the inimitable flavor of fruit fortified wine.
My face flushed with the hit, a rosy shine.

‘Do I have advisors? If so where are they.’
‘I will send for your closest advisor My Lord.’
Maybe I would get some answers soon to who I am or what I have become.

Hordes of attendants made this chamber a colorful noisy place,
Soldiers took up positions like stalwart sentinels armed with wicked looking swords.
Everyone seemed to move as if they all knew their place.

A man moved into the chamber with a large staff in hand,
He walked up to where I sat and bowed.
‘My lord your humble advisor.’
His face was like sinuous vines of the dead and tanned.
‘The wine to your satisfaction my lord?’
‘Yes the wine is fine, can you tell me about this place.’
‘Are you sick my lord do you require a doctor.’
‘I bumped my head earlier things are all a muddle.’ I lied.
‘I will call the doctor right away.’
‘No I will be fine.’
But my lord you may have some damage.’
‘I will be fine just answer the question please.’
‘This is Meltoma your capitol, you are King Ala and ruler of the lower and upper regions. You have a vast army at your disposal consisting of five thousand Bowman, five thousand cavalry, and twenty thousand light footman.’

‘We are mighty in some ways, venal in others my lord, is this the answer you seek?’
I felt supremely blessed and yet supremely humble to what I was, I had walked into a time warp, and it was all too much to take in.
‘We are ready my lord to fight the Battle Realms, just a few minor adjustments to the fighter controls.’
‘Fighters what space crafts.’
Yes the Realms will not know what hit them.’

King I was goblets and crown,
Golden thrones fortified wine,
People milling around my town,
Statues of me so divine.

A vanquished land Battle Realms the foe,
A struggle where power could shift,
From mine to chaos and woe,
To death where spirits drift…

In a hall where I sit and sigh,
My eyes divulged of sleep,
For it is I who rule in emprise,
Noble veins running deep.

Sitting proud and not in shame,
Soldiers, servants came and kneeled,
All shouting out my name,
I smiled from my seat,
Dreams in a pitiful retreat.
