Memories stirring in the grey
In misty moments I recall
That we very nearly had it all

With nothing else that I can do
I wrap myself in thoughts of you
Remembering days now long past
I wonder why it didn’t last

I had foolishly trusted fate
I moved too fast, it came too late
I loved too little or maybe too much
I dreamt enough for both of us

I never cried, I never hurt
Never got angry and what’s worse
I loved you beyond what I can express
And said goodbye nonetheless

I trusted fate, she failed me ‘tho
I never thought you’d really go
Now I must live with what I’ve done
Unable to accept my own reason

My thoughts return always to you
Too much time to think it through
And I wish it had been different then
I’m backwards dreaming again

I'm trying to steer away from this type of verse, but man I loved this one!
Thanks for sharing!

Memories can be hard and then again they can get you through this. Hindsight is a pain inducer at times and make you doubt yourself. Don't doubt. The past is past and cannot be changed. Deal with it the best you can today and push forward tomorrow, not looking in the past.

Hugs,
Rita

I loved this title -

memories are painful - and for me the strongest are the positive ones - the negative seem to blur and fade, so I am left raw with the glorious moments of my past.

Always hoping for a better day ahead!

Nice work -

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, as they say.

You did a fine job with this one.

Keep writing.

Basking in the glory that is you

I had foolishly trusted fate
I moved too fast, it came too late
I loved too little or maybe too much
I dreamt enough for both of us

If only we COULD go back. I wonder, sometimes, if it would be all we think it would be...but, I know if we could take the knowlege we have now back with us, it would be the most beautiful thing.
We can only wonder.
An excellent piece...I really like the way your poems rhyme and flow...

I love that..."backwards dreaming". What a very interesting perspective. I relate to this poem so very much; every word is so similar of the thoughts I used to have about my last marriage. About her.

Very well written and I absolutely love the way your mind works.

Yeah, ..."backwards dreaming". Definitely a great term!!!

I always find myself learning from you.

Thank you so ever much.
