They've fought in Wars abroad, some still waiting for their song too.
The Unsung Heroes I'm speaking of, we see them everyday.
At the Park, at Church and in Nursing Homes,
Yet most fail to realize that so many are alone.
Just wanting someone to talk to, give them a reason to smile.
Spending time with them means so much, go the extra mile.

They've given us so much, their love, time, patience, and wisdom...just to name a few.
I often stop and wonder, where would we be if not for you?
You've loved us unconditionally, you've kept us safe and warm.
Although you spanked us way back then...
I appreciate it now whenever we did wrong.

When night came, only you knew my favorite song.
I'd fall asleep knowing you'd keep me safe from harm.
The times when we went for walks, you always held my hand.
I could talk to you about anything...only you would understand.

The Unsung Heroes I'm speaking of, I hope someday to be...
Every Man and Woman God has blessed, I'm speaking of the Elderly.
They continue to fight battles right here at home trying to survive.
You've done so much for everyone...asking little in return.
Without you...where would we be?
When will we ever learn?

In order to get to the future, we must remember our past.
The Elderly have taught us and given us so much.
Now it's our turn to give back to each and every one.
All our Unsung Heroes want is someone to talk too...
Take time and watch them smile, you'll see.
They're deserving of our love, respect, and time.
Most of all a Song today and for all Eternity.

Love and Respect our Elders!

This is a marvelous tribute, Gloria, to the ones that raised and cared for us. The extended family members and friends that helped make us what we are today. They get shoved aside when the age and no one seems to find the time or the words to say to let them know how loved and appreciated they are. This is so loving.

Smiles,
Rita

A wonderful tribute to our elders who hold so many facinating stories if only we will listen.
