Array ( [sid] => 55858 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => We Need a New America [time] => 2004-07-12 15:17:36 [hometext] => I am not one of those people who are anarchy, that really annoys me. People who think that people today are responsible enough to govern themselves. [no offense] I wrote this after seeing a movie where a white cop beat a black man [bodytext] => How can you call the country of ours beautiful?
If this nation is the epitome of perfection, why do we still hate and discriminate?
You laugh as you tell me I'm too young to understand the ways of the world today
But even you cannot deny the brutality and hate
I can see clearly through the thick of our jaded, tainted, society
You call this progress yet I am seeing our nation rapidly regress
Someone help us, we're in a great distress!
Everyday, there is violence in the streets
Somebody's life is taken away, somebody's beat
You call this beauty? I call it hysteria
If God is great and God is good, do you think that perhaps he has understood why no remorse is shown for our sins?
Why diversity is not accepted?
I think we need to swallow our selfish, shallow pride and understand that without respect, there's gonna be nothing left
To me, being an American means understanding the beauty of diversity, for that is what it means to be truely free
So forget all your ignorance, hostility, and rage
And then you will see how beautiful our country really can be [comments] => 5 [counter] => 206 [topic] => 8 [informant] => Katie2008 [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 9 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => AmericanTragedy )

I see why you're upset and I'm upset too.

But the fact is, america doesn't legally support discrimination. It is brought upon by the people, and people by right are allowed to have free minds... which, in some cases (like the one you describe) sucks ass. Whoever told you america was perfect had a bug up their ass. there's no way any nation can be perfect, there are always going to be flaws. but we try to make it so that all the ones we can control are controlled.

those who disobey will be punished.

just giving some thoughts,
acy

This is a very good write and very true. God puts it in our hands to find the right way we are capable of it, though most of the time mess ups happen
Thanks for clearing things up on my poem as well. You are a great writer and a peace maker

The Sword of Damocles hanging over America is your trade deficit. Nixon separated the value of gold from paper money back in the nineties; this is the preparation for the fall of the US. Imagine containers full of money and simultaneously owning absolutely nothing at all. This what will happen if (foreign) investors will withdraw from the US (keeping the fraudulous paper money balance within limits). Large global companies inside the US are already beginning to off-shore (parts of) their business to low-wage countries such as India, China and economically emerging Eastern European countries. They do not care where they make money as long as they do. Recources (predominantly oil) will no longer be imported because the US cannot afford it any longer, as a result prices of everything will rocket. This will take place in the decades coming. By then it will be no good to possess the world's most advanced army, for the US will not have money to move it around (logistics will kill it). First clear sign of this will become visible in April next year: The OPEC will decide that oil will also be sold for Euros instead of exclusively for Dollars - this will effectively put the Federal Reserve Bank out of business gradually. Your president knows, all his henchmen know. Only the American people are not aware of this yet.
