We’re dying forever Ocean;
I know this to be true.
But I don’t want to die here Ocean;
I want to live, together with you.

The sky is so resistant;
It hangs me from my toes.
Don’t be so persistent Ocean
Just blow off all my clothes.

And when I stand here naked,
Blinded by the sand;
Cover up my body,
And tie back both my hands.

Look onto Ocean plain;
See nothing much at all,
People breaking away,
Running and getting so small.

But I made a promise to her,
that forever I would mourn
Now, some hundred years later
And I'm already bored.

So to the shore I’ll take her,
where we can sit and think.
The Ocean floor will bed her,
and smiling she will sink. [comments] => 6 [counter] => 172 [topic] => 65 [informant] => Ehorse [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => toughstuff )

Hydrophobia.

We’re dying forever Ocean;
I know this to be true.
But I don’t want to die here Ocean;
I want to live, together with you.

The sky is so resistant;
It hangs me from my toes.
Don’t be so persistent Ocean
Just blow off all my clothes.

And when I stand here naked,
Blinded by the sand;
Cover up my body,
And tie back both my hands.

Look onto Ocean plain;
See nothing much at all,
People breaking away,
Running and getting so small.

But I made a promise to her,
that forever I would mourn
Now, some hundred years later
And I'm already bored.

So to the shore I’ll take her,
where we can sit and think.
The Ocean floor will bed her,
and smiling she will sink.

I don't understand the title here. This has nothing to do with hydrophobia.

(n.) An abnormal dread of water, said to be a symptom of canine madness; hence:
Hydrophobia

(n.) The disease caused by a bite form, or inoculation with the saliva of, a rabid creature, of which the chief symptoms are, a sense of dryness and construction in the throat, causing difficulty in deglutition, and a marked heightening of reflex excitability, producing convulsions whenever the patient attempts to swallow, or is disturbed in any way, as by the sight or sound of water; rabies; canine madness.

Please enlighten me.

Thanks,
Rita

Fear of the symbolic resting place

"and smiling she will sink." - and having to continue mourning - "And I'm already bored." - a debt of which you feel conflict in honouring by the need to move on and lay her to rest "The Ocean floor will bed her"

Excuse my attempts at reading into this, Ehorse, but its a beautiful work - one which, because of Rita's confusion of the title, I had to try elaborate upon for myself, as I too am without my mother, although I must say I'm lucky to have memories of her from childhood, after reading such a poignant and thoughtful work.

Thoroughly honest and captured with candour. I rate this above and beyond a 5.

This is a great piece. Full of symbols... I love that... also very solid... I like that as well.
I'm so sorry you must mourn, though.
Lots of love and peace be with you,

Chelsea

The sea is symbolic yes, and the title itself is also very symbolic. When I was a child i used to have a place to sit on the shoreline where i could just look at the sea and think about things. Naturally my Mother was a large part of this process and this poem is a positive opne about moving on. I'm 16 now so I have had plenty of time to come to terms with it. Thank you all, i am very much grateful for you support.
