What shall I put in his hands?
What of the heart that is feeling lonely;
what of his courage, what of this man?
How can I share tears with the one who bags me?
How can I give him my heart?
How can I not get stuck in self pity?
The answers all lie in a rock.

Here's a rock!
This is what I'll put in your hands
It falls on your life and it crushes
It forms a tall mountain to stand
Here's a rock!
It acts and fulfills all it's purpose
It does and keeps it's true form
Look at this rock and learn it's lesson
Learn!

Come see the rock in it's glory
Come mavrel at it's majesty
Come tremble at it's power
Come sit at it's summit and sing

Here's a rock!
It fulfills all it sets out with purpose
It does and it acts in it's form
Look at this rock and learn it's lesson
Learn!

With never quenching love to give
He is the reason why I live
and though sometimes my love does fail
his strength alone helps me prevail
Omnipotent and all knowing
yet gently faith bestowing
He ne're forgets I am a man
and steadies my feet so I might stand
I have no greater gift to give
than the one who helps me live. [comments] => 7 [counter] => 159 [topic] => 21 [informant] => Archie [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 9 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Lifepoems )

Well, I don't really know what to say to this. This is not exactly the person I thought I fairly knew. "Here's a rock! This is what I'll put in your hands. It falls on your life and it crushes". He has crushed you so you must crush him in return? I cannot believe you think two wrongs make a right. I hope you are in a better state of mind and life soon, my dear friend.

Hugs,
Rita

I liked this poem, it was very original. I totally respect Rita's opinion however I do not believe that is what this poem is saying. And with that, I say great work, a well written piece, and keep it up!

A rock can be something we firmly believe in. Solid is its form. Strength is the shield it will adorn. We become solid...solid as a rock.
This is a nice expression of how you firmly believe. And strength is what you carry with you. Well spoken Archie!

I'm not going to attempt to give my thoughts on what you meant by the rock.
Just wanted to say that I loved the poem. The last verse was especially powerful.

Because of the response I am getting to this poem I felt the need to post an explantion.

Stanza one is my state of being
Stanza two is attributes of Jesus as quoted from the scriptures with an encouragement to learn
Stanza 3 is an invitation
Stanza 4 is a repeat of the attributes and encouragement

I hope this will resolve any misunderstandings people will have reading the poem. Thanks for your comments in advance.

I said it once and I'll say it again, the rock is the strength you adorn. I still get it even after reading it over and over. Great write!
