Array ( [sid] => 56228 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Watercoloured Morning [time] => 2004-07-14 23:21:20 [hometext] => Wrote this one winter morning when I awoke to that pleasant sound of rain against my window, and I stumbled out of bed to watch the water trickle down the glass. [bodytext] => windowpane.
skitterish tapping.
a gently persistent, steadying shower
of grey winter spears.
steadily pooling
our soul-winter tears.
washing at walls.
resonance.
a gentle presence.
falling from heaven to cleanse us our sins.
return to the dirt
of the human race.
in kindness.
and
compassion.
fingers of ice
to cool our sorrows
to pull us back down to the place we began.
a gentle reminder of living the world.
gentle.
clean.
on the windowpane

a gentle rain.

This is truly lovely. Very much my same feelings about rain. I love to stand in a warm summer shower feeling it cleanse my face. Excellent verse.

Oh, wow, this is brilliant. I love the rain and you've described it so well.
The imagery so realistic and so alluring.
Beautiful write. :)

I can't tell you how much it irks me when weather forecasters (in New Mexico, no less) speak of incoming rain as though it be some kind of wickedness from on high, to be lived through and tolerated. Such days are my in-tune days, my seeing days, my all-around contentedly intuitive days, and I can't understand those who view them as an inconvenience or misfortune.

I love the way you describe the feeling of awakening to rain, first discovering the "skitterish tapping" of "grey winter spears," then allowing yourself to be entranced by that "gentle presence." And here is the kicker: falling from heaven to cleanse us our sins. / return to the dirt / of the human race. What better analogy for the cycle of depletion and renewal which fuels our planet? But the story doesn't end there. You hammer home your theme with geometrical perfection, as we are presented with fingers of ice / to cool our sorrows / to pull us back down to the place we began.

It's all about beginnings, and "Watercoloured Morning" transports me to a place where the passing of time is all but irrelevant. Thank you for helping me to re-capture my own memories of similar mornings, while looking forward to the next. Blissfully, -KAC-
