[hometext] => I hope this poem will appear to other twentysomething women who are also part of the so called 'Bridget Jones generation'. It's about the new dynamics of lost love in our new busy society.
[bodytext] => ODE TO THE ‘BRIDGET JONES’ GENERATION
Women like us, we don’t like to waste. We don’t like to leave, past relationships in haste. Women like us, we like to progress. We don’t want to leave, past lovers in a mess. Women like us, we don’t treat sex as recreation. Like our careers and jobs, love is a vocation. Women like us, we like to care. When others are suffering, we like to be there. Women like us, we like to make amends. Where there is chaos over past feelings, we want to forget it and ‘stay friends’. Women like us, we want to move forward. We honour commitments but don’t want it ‘awkward’. Women like us, have a tendency to panic. Two men on the go? No, that just makes us manic! Women like us, we try to be altruistic. How else do we say no, without it coming across simplistic? Women like us, live well on our own too. We like a good project, and something ‘to do’. Women like us, don’t enjoy a fight. We tell our men straight, because we just want things ‘right’. If all this is so, And everything here is true. How are there so many women like us? All trying to mend the same men too?
