Even fireflies were preferable, though they often refused to be ignored, offered intermittent but constant reminders of all we longed to leave behind. Yes, we made too much of them and wretched habits like drowning in every available container, all those constant signals of nagging desire. Their suicidal success has prompted an immediate response from winged kin, also persistent but less inclined to die. These walk on water, raise themselves unharmed from any drowning pool. The secret to fly catching it seems, is nothing like honey, but a sense of direction that must be taken upon leaving. This includes of course, an acceptance of inevitable departure. Last night while new wings swarmed within, a flash of lightning, more than twice in the same spot of window, a familiar knocking. I closed my eyes. Refused to be his deathtrap any longer.

Your line breaks are enviable from one stanza to the other excellent work. Interesting topic . Do you read any Frank O'Hara.
Excellent poem with subtext.

Shut out the light which is false and bears no shadow, but the echos of a distant land. Watch gentle jar, flicker and fade and sleep, and wake to the light of day, sweet day.
A beautiful poem and fitting end. |
