Tired of the painful wait. Tired of questions unanswered And mysteries feared. No longer will the darkness Hold demons’ blades to my throat. No longer will my eyes close Wondering if I shall awake. Cold frosty breaths of fog, Heartbeats throbbing in my chest, The shout in my dreams that seems real. Fear is not a shadow or ghost. in the middle of the night, Sitting up in my bed, Staring out into darkness vast beyond walls. Death speaks in whispers I can’t quite make out. It walks beside me, watching, pointing the way. Long thoughtful regrets and laughing visions, Sweet, sweet memories, slow my step And give pause to my resolve. Death is not a faceless robe with sickle. It is the resting at the end of the journey, Where fear and hope and all that is life Sit and watch time speed by unyielding To sentimental remembrance and longing undone…..
