Right now the troops are staying loyal
For one reason or another
But sooner or later that’s going to spoil

These brave men and women have done their best
Sent on a mission backed by lies
Bloodied, battered and traumatized
Still they keep going as another dies

So much loyalty to brothers and sisters there
Afraid to speak out of turn
They just keep on going hoping for an end
And that their leaders will start to learn

Each day brings tears and torture in full
Always more death, destruction and fear
They keep their heads down and do the job
Some now in their second year

For now they stay silent and just do what they’re told
It seems the only choice
But when they get home hopefully safe and sound
THEN you’ll hear their voice

If you have any decency you will listen to them
They won’t be telling you lies
Don’t start calling them names
Or sneering that you despise

What you see as disloyalty to president
or to flag
They have earned every bit of respect from you
Don’t try their words to gag

You’ll see the truth of this war
Written in their sad eyes
Bush sent them to this mission
With just a bunch of lies

Listen as they tell you
Of how it all went wrong
At first it seemed easy
But that never lasted long

Listen to their story
It will surely grip your heart
How Bush has created hell
Of lives just torn apart

Listen quietly and gentlly
These men will be full of pain
Hold them closely next to you
As their tears fall down like rain

A Pandora’s Box is opened
Never to close again
All this is down to Bush
Not these courageous men

In time we will ALL hear
What now is kept so hidden
Bush will be seen for what he is
No longer truth forbidden

An inept and weak leader will stand exposed
One who lied and schemed for war
And we will salute once more the gallant troops
And have SO much to thank them for...

Fine work, Steel. I thought you were about to allude to Vietnam or some other such aversion, but no - it was wrought well.

Let's hope the Brit troopers make it home in one piece, and then aren't 'Manning Controlled' into early retirement, then re-hired as mercs.

Keep writing.
