In the fairest lands,
With the nicest people.
In the grandest castle,
With the finest rooms.
I can hear the village waking up each morning.
I can smell the bread that’s baking there.
In the most lush bedroom,
With my own great view.
In the highest tower,
Of the great King and Queen.
I can wake to luxury each and every morning.
I can watch the workers hurry by.
In the richest of silks,
And the silver spoons.
In the best of the best,
I still long for the rest…
Even a princess isn’t always happy.
I suffer from the high walls,
To keep the townsmen out.
They keep their darling daughter,
In her padded cloud.
I can’t be free, like you can be…
I won’t see anything that’s real.
I spend my days on the grounds,
Looking around,
For something, anything, at all
I haven’t seen before.
So before you close the fairytale to life,
Know that everything doesn’t end,
With a happy husband and wife.
There are no such things as golden faeries,
And no one can tell me I’m wrong.
I have lived my life on royal soil,
Yet I only want to belong…
In your land, in your world,
Where I could be just any girl.
I want to be, anyone but me.
I still long for the rest,
Even in the best of the best.
With the silver spoons,
And the richest of silks.
In the great King and Queen’s highest tower.
With my own great view,
In the most lush bedroom.
In the grandest castle,
With the nicest people,
In the fairest lands, I never see…
Even a princess,
Wouldn’t want to live like me.
