absorbed in play with his toy.
Making me smile, not knowing,
the good graces he is showing.

"Did you hear the Supreme Court rule ? -
they declared: no more prayer in school."

He plays quietly, almost forgotten,
while his family talks above him:
little cars to roll here and there,
consuming all his thoughtful care.

"It's bad as the abortion decision,
seems the Court has lost all reason."

Unaware of the discussion around him;
wonder what his little mind is thinking? -
with teddy bear, sitting there playing,
unaffected by what we are saying.

"If we, as a nation, ignore God
we are sure to feel his rod."

Now, he lays the teddy aside,
with his toy car, he takes a ride.
He lines his toy cars in a row,
complete contentment, little face aglow.

"By the time Ethan becomes adult,
our whole country will be corrupt."

Suddenly the child becomes aware,
and at me, he begins to stare.
His puzzled look startles me,
as I think what his future may be.

"Oh God, I pray my generation,
doesn't riun, for Ethan, this great Nation."

We take all the structure, morals and values out of the American system and then we wonder why our children have no feeling of security or responsibility or respect. Shame on all of us.

Amen. Christ will walk with him as He has with us. He will never let us down.

Yes indeed Lionel it does look grim.
But stich is right HE will never abandon us no matter how much mischief men do. He will find a way - when the time is right- to set things right.
Beautiful and touching Lamento over the triste circumstances. Your deep concern is obvious.
Blessings!
Elizabeth

I love the way you put this poem together...I could imagine this little boy and could feel the pressure how taking away prayer will effect little darling children like this....I even got teary!
Thanks for a wonderful thought out poem....
us Christians have to Hold Fast to prayer and teach our children to keep praying.... even if...silently!
[as God knows what is in all our hearts]
