Array ( [sid] => 64312 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Wish to be placed in heaven? [time] => 2004-09-19 07:20:39 [hometext] => This poem I am submitting herewith explaining the secrets of maintaining a good domestic life. Although I am not married but these are my knowledge in reading the Thirukkural written by the great Saint Thiruvalluvar. [bodytext] => The virtuous men of household, firm in way of good, sustain
The three openly declared relations, they should maintain

To saints, to poor and to ancestors in clay
The virtuous men of household, be helpful and stay

To the manes, gods, guests, relatives and self in due degree
These five to cherish well, is the chief charity

Sharing his meal with others, all guilt he shuns
His virtuous line remain unbroken, though the ages runs

If in his household love and virtue reign
This is of life, that gives perfect grace and gain

A virtue in active household, a man cannot retain
What fruit from other modes, as virtue can he gain?

If in nature`s way he spends his calm domestic days
Amid all striving for virtue`s crown, has foremost place

For virtues set by others in their way, and if he never declines
And even bears stern domestic pains, such life brighter shines

This domestic life rightly bears true virtue`s name
That other too, if found blameless due praise may claim

If he spends domestic life, by household virtues graced
Shall amidst the gods who dwell in heaven, be placed.
