shades drawn
light smothered
I recognize the smell
and my eyes want to cry
but they've simply run dry

holding you
stroking your hair
as you scream about bugs
that aren't really there
you speak to friends and family
and demons only you can see
dryly sobbing, I hold you tighter
as you reach for another pill

and when you sleep
I can't
just end up watching you
seizing you with my eyes
holding you with my heart

but each day
it's only worse
you no longer know I’m here
you scream for help
clawing at your face
fearing that you're all alone
even as I hold you tight

rocking back and forth in my arms
tears burning down your face
and another handful of pills go down
and another restless daze appears
to push the madness away

the smell on you so strong now
the death that's come to claim you
frail hands still clawing at the eyes
that feed the madness with illusion

beside you in the bed we shared
forgetting the smell
and as I kiss your bleeding cheek
a single tear catches my lip
as it rolls softly away
and I can taste the joy within
for your heart is still
and your time is done
and peace is yours' at last

now so alone
still, I smile for you

too late for me to say goodbye
only time to hold you

This is deeply emotional and touching.
The helplessness and pain is so stark and yet, there it ends with a kind of completeness and peace.

Even if it didn't come out the way you wanted it to, I think you've done an excellent job here.

This so heart wrenchingly powerful, with so many fierce emotions and sorrowful feelings, this really made me sit down and think, of others for a change instead of just surviving day to day....you have such an astounding way with words.
Take care always.

This had a tremendous impact on me. Specifically, it dredged up some rather painful memories. Greatly written, and filled with razor sharp emotion.

Sleeping forever,
-V.S.

Dude this was awesome I've never read a
poem that is so creepy and emotional as this
one. The third to last stanza almost put tears
in my eyes. Beautiful man you've captured
everything in this.
