it wasn't that long ago
that if I had been asked
if I would take you back
my answer wouldn't be masked
I wouldn't have hesitated
to say that I would
but that was before I saw
where in the matter you stood
I see now what's in your heart
or the lack of what's there
and so I can't put my finger on
any reason for me to care
you decided to turn your back
and then tried to pretend
but naively I believed your promise
that you'd always be a friend
you left, and stranded me cold
out in the middle of nowhere
I struggled to find my way back
and away from that nightmare
your heart was changed
and now, so has mine
I have finally figured out
where I should draw the line
the damage can't be undone
don't pretend it will abate
we've become far too distant
and now it is too late
I can't do this anymore
there's nothing left to say
we should stop kidding ourselves
we're better off this way
