The Sun hadn't even risen yet.
The moon was high in the sky.
The ground was covered with fallen leaves.
The earth was chilled with an early frost.
The land was silent awaiting your birth.
2:28 a.m. came like a ray of sunshine on that cold, & crisp October morn.
The day you were born .
I had no idea what to expect.
The pain soon became joy.
The tears became smiles.
The screams turned to laughter.
I was elated & Asiatic.
Here was someone all my own.
Someone I could put all my hopes trust & dreams into.
Someone who wouldn't hurt me.
You were so beautiful.
Hair as dark as night.
Skin as dry as the desert sands.
Lips as red as the roses.
Eye's as blue as the heavens.
The happiness flew from my heart & into my fingertips the first time I touched you.
Love poured from the veins my blood flowed through the first time I held you in my arms.
My eye's lit up with pride when they set upon your glorious face.
I will never forget the first time you cried it was music to my ears.
I remember laying you beside me in bed;
I couldn't take my eyes off you.
I wanted you all to myself.
I hated leaving you even for a minute.
I knew my life was about to change, nothing would ever be the same again.
You grew quickly.
You were strong & healthy.
Your black hair became blonde,
Your smile lit up your face.
Your nose was a little button, upon your precious face.
Anyone would have proud to call you son, I know I was.
Time for us went by way to quickly.
Oh how I wish I could back the clock.
The leaves changed colors.
Fall became winter.
The snow fell.
Thanksgiving came & went.
I was so grateful for you.
Christmas was a challenge.
I held your small hands in mine.
We opened presents together.
You were too young to remember me.
News Year's was lonely for me.
I stayed home to be with you.
Valentines was far from loving.
16 with a son no one wanted to be mine.
St, Patrick's was no parade.
I think I even forgot to wear green.
I turned 17 on March 28 Th.
My only present was you.
Winter gone now time for the birds to sing.
The snow melted.
The flowers bloomed.
Easter came.
No basket from the bunny for me.
My childhood was over.
You're was just beginning.
Spring faded into summer.
Along with the storms came...
Heartaches..
Tears...
&
Pain...
They came for you one afternoon in the middle of June.
It was June 19thth 1987.
It was a day unlike any other.
The day that sealed the doom of our life together.
No longer would I take you for walks in your stroller.
No more pushing you on the swings at the park.
No more watching you playing in the grass.
My world shattered.
My heart broken.
My dreams dying.
My illusions crumbling like a house of cards.
I knew in my heart that this fateful day would come.
The day you were no longer to be mine.
The day they would say I was to young.
I fought like any good mother would do,
But I soon realized any good mother would do the best for her child.
I gave you birth this time I gave you life.
You weren't meant to be mine.
You were born to be someone else's gift.
So on a cold winter morn I went to judge Anderson's courtroom & signed the papers.
Now years have gone by and I think about you everyday, my handsome Drew.
I gave you birth this time I gave you life.
You weren't meant to be mine.
You were born to be someone else's gift.
So when the time comes my son & you find out about me,
Please remember to look me up.
The woman that gave you the gift of life,
So you could become someone else's gift.

For My Son Born October 5th 1 986.

Wow. Powerful poem. I'm sorry you had to let him go, but I'm sure it was for the best.

What a beautiful, poignant, heartrending poem . . . how awful an experience that must've been for you. Your strength shines through in this poem :). Best wishes to you and Drew.
