Array ( [sid] => 70226 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => THE ULTIMATUM [time] => 2004-11-05 02:21:05 [hometext] => This tries to explain my contempt for humanity, but not directly, but by telling a story that happens to have some poem like qualities. It is dark and humorous, with a Sci-Fi feel. [bodytext] => A bright light from the sky
From another world
From the depths of space
From the edge of the universe
It traveled far to find itself here
A diplomat of alien origin
A representative from an ancient civilization
Sent here to deliver an ultimatum

A voice of clarity
A voice of reason
Listen closely
You cannot escape its purpose here
Stop what you are doing
And look in its direction
What it wants applies to us all

Pay attention for these are its terms
Put an end to your war
Put an end to your hate
Put an end to your sin
Put an end to your Geo-centric religions
Put an end to your greed
Put an end to your ignorance
Put an end to your perversion
And put an end to your waste and mass consumption
Do this and we shall let you live
Do not and you shall parish

And those were its words
From the bright light in the sky
From another world
From the depths of space
From the edge of the universe

It traveled far to find itself here
Sent here to deliver an ultimatum
The diplomat of alien origin
Smiled with reasonable expectation
Hoping to inspire peace
Hoping to inspire morality
Unfortunately it could only be done through fear
But there was no other way
Humanity was just too primitive
To understand in any other terms

The diplomat was sure that humanity would cooperate
He was sure that humanity would unify as one
He was sure that humanity would see the justness in his request
And he was sure that humanity would sacrifice their immoral behavior
In order to live
But to his surprise,
Humanity only scoffed at his proposal
And humanity continued on its spree of self- gratification
As they ignored the light that had traveled so far
The diplomat was too stunned to move
"Was there no logic here?" he thought
But there was nothing left for him to do

The light from the sky
Once white of purity
Became black with great energy
And a force as had never been seen
Erupted forth upon humanity

And the last thought of every person on earth
As they saw the fire ball of death
Coming down to extinguish them
Was not of forgiveness or of salvation
But the single thought that was persistent
In the minds of all humanity
Was of selfishness and not of generosity
"Damn!", they all thought,
"Good thing I got in that one last screw
And just barely in time too." [comments] => 2 [counter] => 292 [topic] => 13 [informant] => Onslaught [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 15 [ratings] => 3 [editpoem] => 0 [associated] => [topicname] => DarkPoetry )

That was kind of demented. But I guess that is how the world is.
