Array ( [sid] => 71289 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Shutting Out Reality [time] => 2004-11-12 23:00:23 [hometext] => 'There is but one truly philosophical problem, and that is suicide. You can ponder this or analyze that, but will it convince you that life is worth living?' - From 'THE MYTH OF SISYPHUS' - By Albert Camus. [bodytext] => I used to care
I used to have concern
But nothing can fill the void
This life means nothing
I have tried distracting myself
I have tried to divert
My ever searching and questioning mind
But it never works
Now there is only one thing left to do
I must stop my consciousness
I must stop my thoughts
I must stop my hope
I must stop my desire
I must stop feeding my mind with false dreams
I will become the living dead
Shutting out reality
Safe from Cognition
For Not even complete understanding
Could make this life worth living

We Distract ourselves with Politics
We Distract ourselves with Emotions
We Distract ourselves with Science
We Distract ourselves with Religion
We Distract ourselves with Earthly pleasures
Anything to get our mind off
The one true constant
In all reality, seen and unseen
Nothing can give this life meaning
You have all bought into the distractions of life
From birth, becoming second nature,
Unable to see past the lies.

All these things to do and see
All these things To learn and discover
But for what?
Knowing will not bring comfort
Knowing will not bring enlightenment
Knowing will not bring finality
Knowing will not bring consolation
Knowing will not end suffering
Knowing will not end loneliness
Knowing will not replace the unattainable

We Distract ourselves with Politics
We Distract ourselves with Emotions
We Distract ourselves with Science
We Distract ourselves with Religion
We Distract ourselves with Earthly pleasures
Life is just insignificant details
Not even knowing everything
Could make this life worth living
I need what does not exist
And what that is I do not know
What lies beyond death
Might have what I seek
But I cannot prompt my hand to take my own life
Instead I must wait
Time is torture
As I count down the seconds until the end

Do not try to offer me your solutions
For they are only distractions
And distractions do not work on me
You can keep your politics
You can keep your emotions
You can keep your religions
You can keep your earthly pleasures
They do not work on me
I will become the living dead
Shutting out reality
Safe from Cognition
I need what does not exist
And what that is I do not know [comments] => 5 [counter] => 210 [topic] => 48 [informant] => Onslaught [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 10 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 0 [associated] => [topicname] => EmotionalPoetry )

great write. i do feel this would be better without the repetition of the first part of the verse time and time again though. but other than that i liked this. very true.

Mike, you must stay up to 2 am more often..I am so glad you have insomnia

This is one of your best..honestly..and you know it!

Genius use of words..Loved the repetition sounded really angry, aggressive...read really well with Aslan Faction..ty so much for the introduction there.

..with your musical talent and writing ability, I just might have to have you
