Slowly they pull my attention outside
Whispers stir themselves into a whirl of madness
I can’t seem to find a place to hide

How can she read my lies like an open book?
She found a way inside my soul
I feel her run inside my veins
Mesmerized she begins to take control

No brick wall can save me from this stranger
Imaginary sanctuaries can’t tear her away
On the other side she lives in the mirror
Through all of my lies she stays

This stranger we all have to fight
The reality of our world built on lies
Something that surfaces during the night
She rises high as my mask dies

I can’t cover up this deeper side
The stranger that I’ve been encountering
Is the real me that’s been immersed
No forged desires can keep her from surfacing

beautiful poem reminded me slightly of
Evanescence. I loved the wording of this
poem. I loved how you wrote about masks
and how often we try to hide and then often
we forget who we actually are.
