In better times a warming caress, now the herald of an end
There in the silent dark she lay, a soft bed scarce comfort in her dying hours
He knew it was her time, each fleeting second stronger the call to the grave

Tears welled in his tired restless eyes
Rolled down his cheeks as he witnessed a brave fight for life
Death was walking, whispering to her
Promising a journey free from all the pain

By her side, kneeling, head bowed in prayer
Final moments rushing by, hurried like autumn leaves
Memories of summers past, strolling through wild heather
Soon to be a raindrop in the storm of life

A last look up from her dying eyes
Seeking approval to leave, never to return
Through the sorrow he smiled, nodded his consent
Finally peaceful sleep whispered her goodbye

He would take her to a place where she was always free
High on the moorland where the air was so sweet
A trusted companion, his oldest faithful friend
His gentle lady, free to run the sky [comments] => 7 [counter] => 227 [topic] => 32 [informant] => puppy_dog_eyes [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => SadPoetry )
