Fleeting days carry their pages over
Leaving me trying to see so quickly
And leafing through chapters passed.

In them I find choice passages
Many things to warm the heart -
And so often the heart needs warming
With winter’s hand coming on.

Words of wonders, fast enshrined
To be remembered; stars in the sky
That never allow the cold to come;
Lamps, given, set in their places.

Warm hearts kindle a smile
Brightest stars among the rest
Seldom is their radiance far from mind
Forgotten in neither zephyr nor gale.

Those lines go deeper than the page
As I bring the book to hand
Binding the image of smiling hearts
Where the cold cannot carry.

May the sun shine on us all
When the winds bring us together,
And a song built of olden words and deeds
Sound in our ears in the silence.

Farewell from my kindred, and friends I love so dear…

…and friends I love so dear.”

Warming, and worth the all the reads It shall get in future.

I'd been perusing your collection today, wondering when you'd next post - and here you are.. .

"And so often the heart needs warming
With winter’s hand coming on."

Too true.

*pouts* I wanted to be the first comment. lol
Well Andrew, since you sent this to me I've read it six times. And I will probably read it over and over again for a very long time.

It is a very beautiful poem, one of my new favourites (as all your poems seem to become) and something that will definatly warm my heart.

I am in awe.

Thanks, my friend.
*hugs you tons*

Beautiful write, Andrew... I can picture the hearth now.. a group waiting for their hero to come home, and he returns simply without fanfare, to the ones he loves most..the warrior's heart is warmed by friends and family...
It is a rather sentimental piece for you, out of the ordnary, but nicely done. God bless.

Yes, I'd have to agree with Emily. That was quite sentimental. What happened to the cold-hearted beast I've always known? Well, I guess anyone can change after having a friend like me. Boy, are you lucky. Okay, sorry for the silly comment. Yes, of course I loved this piece. I like the few different comparisons that are alive throughout the poem. So, I guess it was rather nice.

"Those lines go deeper than the page"

As do these, Andrew... as do these.

Your journey through heart and mind always seems to prod a bit of gentle longing. Your 'now' is so rich with past and so tied to future... I cannot help but feel emotion as I read your work. This is simply beautiful.

Again moved,
~SNM~

I feel a chill in the air, but a warmth in the heart. Very nice, Andrew. I always smile when I think of your writes.

Andrew if they ever did a list of top 10 poets on this site, it would be a traversty if you weren't in the top 3. Another awesome write.

Johnny.

Another absolutely lovely write...
This has such depth and maturity- have no words to describe the beauty and the meaning in this. I guess the poem itself says it all.
Just like the lines you speak about-- the lines you write go so much 'deeper than the page'.
God bless...

Andrew,
How this warmed me. It is quite cold outside tonight, but inside,
it's warm, and cozy and oh! how the light doth shine ever so bright.
I was so touched by the depth of your words.
This was beautifully sweet.

Yes, yes, very good. I've come to the point where I don't expect nothing less, so no great surprise. Yeah, just ordinary...
Take care,

you have a great heart
