When no one else is awake except me
And I'm off on the road to a far away land
In hopes of starting over again

I hear a silent whisper
I can hear it call my name
Its silent call is deafening
Though in reality it is only the rain
But I drive on oh so slowly
Sure that the voice is not in my head
Hearing things that could help me
Giving my life to hear all that is said

It beckons me to turn around
And head in the direction of home
But then I pass by an abandoned house
And I pull in sure I'm alone

I head on to the front porch
And knock on the door
And I hear the sound of a child
And I know what I'm here for

I hear a silent whisper
I can hear it call my name
Its silent call is deafening
Though in reality it is only the rain

I go on through the doorway
And call out is anyone there
Then I hear muffled foot steps
That I can barely hear

I go on up the stairway
That strains to support my weight
And I stop to hear the childs voice
My heart it starts to race

I hear a silent whisper
I can hear it call my name
Its silent call is deafening
Though in reality it is only the rain

I take cautious steps forward
My eyes glancing all around
And as I enter the last room
A see a child under the bed, laying on the ground

I say I am here to help
Though I am not sure what brought me here
I will do all I can to support you
I will hold you if you come near

I hear a silent whisper
I can hear it call my name
Its silent call is deafening
Though in reality it is only rain

The child slowly exits
From the bottom of the bed
And I finally see it's face
See his handsome head

And I tell him stories
Stories of my youth
As we carefully go down the stairs
And out from under the ancient roof

I hear a silent whisper
I can hear it call my name
Its silent call is deafening
Though in reality it is only the rain

We go back to my car
And I open up his door
And tell him that he will be alright
That now he has something to live for

I will raise you as my own boy
And help you get through school
And then I look up toward the sky
And ask is this what I came to do

I hear a silent whisper
I can hear it call my name
Its silent call is deafening
Though reality it is only the rain

And I start back on my journey
Homebound once again
And I look on over at him sleeping
And I know I have a friend

The rain stops pouring
And the silent call is gone
I know I did the right thing
And the future can't prove me wrong

And I heard a silent whisper
I could hear it call my name
Its silent call was deafening
Though in reality it was only the rain [comments] => 4 [counter] => 181 [topic] => 34 [informant] => poet_of_anger [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 4 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 0 [associated] => [topicname] => SongLyrics )

As a song it works quite well although the chorus turns up too often... It's OK to have two verses then a chorus on occassion, some really good bands do that (Guns 'n' Roses, the Doors). As a poem, the rhyming pattern is restricting you, but since it's a song it is necessary. Kudos!

I am a song writer myself....I really like your chorus, but you do have it in there a little too much...on the other hand....you did a really good job with the rhymes....I will asume that this is suposed to be a slower song....like November Rain by Guns 'n Roses.....Nice job and keep it up!

I agree, the chorus comes up too often, but it was a very good poem other than that.
