Array ( [sid] => 7485 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => The forever memory [time] => 2002-11-26 05:30:00 [hometext] => A bit of a twist on the way this actually happened, infact... I think it ended up worse in the real situation.

Words from the old site (20th April 2002) [bodytext] => Imagine 19 and in lock down,
Pulled out of the good life that I had,
and given the one that I’ve got now.
The worst thing is I brought it all on myself,
Now I just have to accept it and deal with the hand
that I’ve been dealt.

Who knew that this would all end in tears?
And decide the life style I’ll live for the next 8 years.
Locked in a cell, never planned things this way,
I think of the outside, through the night, through the day.

Stranded here, landed here, with 8 years for manslaughter,
I can’t stand another day without seeing my baby daughter.
Everyday I fight to hold back my tears,
As I realize my worst fears, so far away from my 2 girls, in my darkness, right here.

Surrounded by dirt floors and stone walls
as far as I can see,
I can only pray that my family and friends
can move on, and live life without me.
In my mind it all comes around back again and again,
Punished by my time here, alone, sealed away.
What will all of this time do for my pain?

That night, however misty, will always stick in my mind,
The pain it gave others will never heal,
no matter how much time.
I never even thought that night when I drove out,
That my heart would be crushed,
crushed again and then torn out.

Behind the wheel in the blackness of night,
I awoke, face in my hands,
I heard the words, “you alright?”
Cramped in crushed metal, with broken glass all around.
Now I can’t stop the thoughts of the screaming,
the bright lights or the sound.

I guess I was lucky, not a scratch, and not one broken bone,
At that point I thanked God that I’d left on my own.
The worst day of my life was when I was told,
It wasn’t just you, another car was involved.

I can’t block it out, I can’t even pretend,
Who ever thought that a drunken night on the drive home
would take the life of my best friend?

Wow .. did you really get 8 yrs at 19 ... and leave behind your wife and child? and lose your friend to boot? Your guilt must be tremendous. That must have been a nightmare... I can see where your dark poetry must come from .... and words can't really express the sorrow ...

This poem is good and expresses your grief in plain words ... well written.

This might not make no sense
but every time i read somthing like
this that's tragic, it helps me because
i know that when i look at the problems
that i have, that they aren't really bad
compared to something like this
Thanks for sharing this one i hope
all comes out well for you and that
you one day can be happy with life

Well mate, I don't know what to say except that at least it's in the past and not the present.

Thanks for writing it. Oreo's right, stories like yours really do make us put our own lives into perspective.

We all have our own private pains - you know that I love your poetry! This one reminds me of my husband again, serving 47 1/2 years now, and he's only 25. If I told you what he was in for you'd feel less guilty for your mistake........
I am glad to have read this, for as I have moved on with my life, I still correspond with this man because I just can't leave him there to die.
Reading your words gives me the feeling he probably knows just how you feel, and now thanks to you, I have a better perception of how he feels too.
Thanks for sharing.

Normally I wouldn’t comment on something I had written, but I feel I should clarify this one. This poem doesn’t tell the whole story, like I said, a tale told, but not in the way it really happened. I changed it a bit, to keep it somewhat private. Don’t believe that everything here is true; it’s just similar to something that really happened.
